Suited for both home and small office use is the Brother HL-4040CN printer with 4040CN toner. It’s capable of dishing out your color and monochrome printout requirements and works fast enough to meet deadlines. Using laser technology and toners, keeping cost per page low is possible without sacrificing the quality of your documents.
Inside it is a 300MHz NEC VR5500 processor. This allows this workhorse to dish out up to 21 color and monochrome pages every minute with compatible toner. It only takes 16 to 17 seconds for the first page to be ejected. However, these speeds are still affected by a few factors. They include the computer’s configuration and the amount of text or graphics the document contains. From sleep mode, warm up time takes 33 seconds, while it takes 37 seconds from power on. With such, you can get to the task at hand right away to meet your deadlines.
Texts come clean and sharp while graphics come detailed, thanks to the 2400 x 600 dpi (dots per inch) resolution used. It’s good enough to yield professional-looking documents for use at home or in a small workplace. Brochures, reports, presentations and others end up impressively produced as expected from a laser.
Media handling capacity present allows you to be more productive. You may use either the standard paper tray (250-sheet capacity) or the multi-purpose tray (50-sheet capacity). Media types supported are regular paper, bond paper, labels and envelopes. Media sizes compatible with the standard paper tray include letter, legal, executive, B6, B5, A6 and A5. Other than these sizes, the multi-purpose tray can also work on custom ones (2.75 x 4.57 inches to 8.5 x 14.0 inches).
The machine comes pre-installed with a 64MB memory. An expansion slot is available that’s compatible with a 144-pin S0-DIMM memory, so you may have it upgraded to as high as 512MB for more complex tasks. Printer language used is PCL 6 which contains a total of 66 scalable fonts, 12 bitmap fonts and 13 bar codes.
In hooking up this printer to a network, there’s the integrated 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet port. A hi-speed USB 2.0 port is also provided for use with a single computer. Thanks to this fitted USB port, it’s possible to directly print PDF and JPEG files directly from a USB flash memory without switching on the computer. What’s more, photos found in a PictBridge-enabled digital camera can also be printed by plugging it in.
Starter toners are bundled with a purchase. The black toner is capable of yielding up to 2500 pages at 5 percent coverage. On the other hand, the yellow, cyan and magenta toners can produce as many as 1500 pages at 5 percent coverage. High-capacity toner replacements may be easily obtained from land-based or online sellers of genuine Brother consumables.
The Brother HL-4040CN printer with Brother MFC-4040CN toner, has a body measuring 16.5 inches x 18.7 inches x 12.5 inches (W x D x H) and weighing a little over 64 pounds. Suited for use at home or in a small office, it has useful features such as ID, N-in-1, watermark, booklet, and date and time printing with compatible toner. A back-lit three-color display panel and well-laid out buttons found on the left side of the top panel allow you to operate this machine hassle-free with use of cartridges.
