Addressing Some Concerns About Static No Bark Collar
Dogs with barking problems have a clear and effective solution these days. The device is called a no bark dog collar and when you purchase one and use it on your dog, the idea is the collar will prevent your dog from barking. The collar sends out annoying stimulations whenever your dog barks – in time the annoyance will not be something the dog looks forward to. Still, even though static collars have not been conclusively proven to be of definite harm to any dog, there are dog owners who may not want a shocking experience for their pets.
How electric shocks affect a dog
A bark collar releases one of three stimuli, depending on the type – a harmless spray, a low volt shock, an ultrasonic sound; the static collar is one of these. Sound uses a tone only dogs can hear. The thing is the static collars seem to be at par with the Citronella collars as far as effective deterrence of barking is concerned.
Online you’ll find a lot of short videos allegedly showing how painful the shock of collars can be to people, and by extension, to dogs. Often only casually filmed, with shots of family members and friends just about to get shocked with a collar they’re holding. The moment they walk outside the perimeter, the collar goes off, shocking them. Those people may have yelled in shock, but that’s not a barometer of pain – the people filmed may have been exagerrating.
The level of current delivered by a collar, and this is what some dog owners find hard to accept, is no more harmful than the static one feels when rubbing one’s feet across a carpet.
You can actually adjust the level of shock
The setting the static collar comes with is just a default setting – usually set on the lowest – but it can be adjusted; increased or decreased as you see fit. Usually this starts with the lowest level. It’s up the dog owner to decide – should he notice that the dog is still able to bark despite the intensity setting that’s set, by all means find a higher setting that would stop the dog from barking. You have to observe well at which settings the dog ceases to bark, and keep there for some time. It’s not non-stop, so it’s not torture.
There’s a recommended alternative to static shocks – the spray collar
There’s always some unfounded or vague fear linked to the use of static collars – the worry is correct, but the basis are often not so well-founded. The foregoing are but info gathered on the static collar; there’s nothing wrong with still choosing another kind of collar. There are other types of no bark collars out there, ones that do no use a shock as stimulus. It’s always a great thing to have many options. Take note here that the spray type of collar, the most common of which is the Citronelle variety, is said to be just as efficient as the static type of collar.
